Police killing sparks massive protest in Payne Land
Police yesterday shot and killed a man who they said was wanted for a double murder in Payne Avenue in Kingston, sparking a massive protest by residents of the violence-prone community.
The cops said Howard Thompson, also called ‘Howie’ was a notorious gang leader of a section of the community called ‘Top Payne Land’, and that he was wanted for the murder of an elderly woman and her teenage grandson there last year.
The police said at about 6:00 am, they went to a house in the area where they saw Thompson and a woman in a yard. When he was approached, the lawmen said the woman ran, and Thompson then pulled a firearm and aimed it at the officers while retreating into the house. He was, however, shot and killed by the police team.
A 9mm pistol, registered B63361, was taken from Thompson’s possession, the police said.
“He was wanted for the murder of an elderly lady; a woman in her sixties and her grandson last year, as well as for other shooting incidents. We have been looking for him since, but I guess the law finally caught up on him this morning,” a senior officer at the Hunts Bay Police Station told Chat!.
“He was the leader of the ‘Top Payne Land’ gang in the community, and he was involved in some shooting incidents down there last week. So we had to go for him,” added the officer.
But the irate residents — who gathered in numbers and mounted several roadblocks in the community — said that Thompson was killed in cold blood. They also claimed that Thompson’s mother was doused with water when she went to look at her son’s corpse.

But it’s ok for Howard Thompson to go out and kill an old lady and her grandson, you ignorant jackass. Their lives didn’t matter to Howard Thompson, did it? You need to know facts before you posting your comments online there‘s a lot more to these story’s than what they’re putting in the media. If “Howard Thompson” killed that old lady and her grandson then he should be brought to justice and be prosecuted not killed because if he went to prison he would have reflect on what he did, most probably and I said “probably” this man would change his life around. I know that this would not bring back the old lady and her grandson but the law is to disarm these so called “GUN MAN” and bring them to justice “IN FRONT OF THE COURT”.
You both seem to think that am siding with the police, but how wrong you are. Where is the JUSTICE for that old lady and her grandson? I could bet my life that if it was your grandmother or your grandson you would want the same justice for Howard Thompson. How ironic it is when it’s not in your favor the world is against you.

What chance did Howard Thompson gave that sixteen year-old kid. He could have grown up to be our next Prime Minister, you never know but he wasn’t given that chance. Did he?
If Howard Thompson an adult of sound mind and body went out and murder someone, then I personally think he met his faith!

we knew ‘howie’ when he was in england and yes many people will say he got what he deserved both in jamaica and england there was not only that one set of murders he comitted but thats the only one there chatting bout he was a very horrible rapist man and forced himself on young girls he chose the life he wanted 2 lead and decided 2 lead it this in the end got him killed (halleluja) you seem 2 forget that he pulled a gun on the police and they are allowed 2 shoot if they feel threatened and knowing ‘howie’ personally i beleive he would have used the gun yes his mum will be upset this was her son but none of his baby mothers are actually bothered as they now know the can live without fear that he may return 2 england and f*ck there lives up same way he did many others i beleive justice was served a life for a life AMEN
All so true repect for talking da truth da man as left 4 iids what i know of in england n never minded any of them. He even made 1 do a prison sentence for him. He robbed n stabbed up people in england so just think what he did in jamaica. I have known him to force hiself on many young girls n his name has also been called up for raping a yuong girl. So even if he did not draw a gun on the jamaican police when he got killed. Da other families that have lost su1 to his gun. Dey have now got justice!
