Appliance tricksters nabbed
One of two men accused of tricking an unsuspecting man into believing they could source furniture for him at a reduced cost and then robbing him was remanded in custody when the case was brought before the court yesterday.
The men, Garry Campbell and Donald Brown, were picked up by the police on charges of larceny by trick and conspiracy to larceny by trick.
Allegations against the men are that in December 2008, the complainant was in the parking lot of a furniture store along Constant Spring Road when Campbell approached him. Campbell reportedly told the man that he could provide furniture at a cheaper cost. Campbell then took the complainant to Marcus Garvey Drive where he was robbed by several persons.
The police told the court that Campbell was held when the police set up a similar operation. Brown was also nabbed in that exercise and was later identified by Campbell as an accomplice.
However, Brown’s lawyer told the court that his client was not picked up in that sting operation but sometime after Campbell was arrested.
Brown was bailed at the sum of $50,000 with surety and his fingerprint was ordered to be taken.
