A man accused of forcing himself on to a 12-year-old girl was granted bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. 

Facing a charge of rape is Marvin Thomas.

The court was told that on the day in question, the complainant was sleeping and awoke to see a shadow hovering above her. She screamed for her mother, but her attacker reportedly said, “Hey gal shut yu mouth.”

It is alleged that the accused man then sexually molested the girl. The court was told, however, that the accused was not identified by his face, but rather by his voice.

A lawyer representing Thomas told the court that the complainant at first said she could not identify the accused by his voice, but later gave a statement saying she had seen the accused man in a dream.

Thomas was granted $50,000 bail with surety and is to return to court on November 17.
